Mimics of nucleosides as antiviral agents

We are investigating the medicinal chemistry of modified ribonucleosides as novel antiviral agents. These compounds are designed to mimic the mechanism of action of ribavirin, a broad-spectrum antiviral drug that introduces mutations into genomes of RNA viruses. We are working collaboration with Professor Craig Cameron (Penn State, Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) to identify potent viral mutagens and related compounds as improved antiviral therapeutics.
