Verne M. Willaman Gateway to the Sciences

Overview

We are an organic chemistry group working at the interface of several other disciplines. We design and synthesize molecules with unique (and often remarkable) function, and develop new concepts that lead to useful, new reactivity.

We are motivated by important problems facing the world, and address these problems from unconventional perspectives. A typical project involves experiments designed to answer fundamental questions relevant to the problem, followed by more applied endeavors that merge our newly gained knowledge with creative solutions.

Our research is inherently interdisciplinary; we interface organic chemistry with analytical, physical organic, bioorganic, and polymer chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, and biotechnology. The focus of the group is the design of interesting molecules and reactions, but the group as a whole thinks broadly about science and embraces researchers with a variety of perspectives.

Undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellows with interests in any of the areas listed above (and a penchant for the unique) are welcomed and encouraged to apply.
